Thanks for checking out Akron's chapter of the Secular Student Alliance! We are a student group for atheists, agnostics, humanists, skeptics, and those who are questioning their supernatural beliefs.
This group's goals are to:
Provide a community for atheists, agnostics, humanists, skeptics, and those who are questioning their beliefs
Organize activities such as forums for discussion, movie/documentary showings, guest speakers, and debates that educate students at the University of Akron and the surrounding community
Promote and practice skeptical inquiry, provide a skeptical perspective concerning issues on campus, and present counter arguments to those presented by groups on campus
Promote the philanthropic values of the humanist movement by engaging in community, charity and fund-raising events
Educate the community concerning secular denominations and promote a positive attitude toward secularism. It is important that we, as a group, work to actively dispel common misconceptions of individuals who think that it is impossible to lead a moral and good life without religion
Advocate for the separation between church and state
Be represented within the student community at events and in media, on and off of campus
Have a positive, lasting presence on campus
If you are looking for a community of atheists, or if you've ever doubted the methods of faith healers, ghost hunters, psychics, or astrologers, this may be the place for you. If you want to learn more about us, don't hesitate to shoot us a message or come to one of our meetings. We're always up for some good discussion! Click on "Feed" to see what we've been up to.
This semester (Fall 2012), we have a lot of exciting events and meetings in the works! For more details on events, sign up for our email list by sending a message to AkronSSA@gmail.com
