1 University of Akron - USG

Frequently Asked Questions

What does USG do?

USG serves as the voice of the student body to administrators, faculty, and the broader University community. Our role as an organization is to connect with fellow students, create plans for growth and positive change, and work to enact them across campus.

The Executive Branch focuses on distributing funds to student organizations so that they can travel to events across the country and to host on campus events that benefit the student body. They also plan and develop the Ohio Student Government Summit, a conference for university student governments in the state of Ohio, which is hosted right here on campus. All of the publicity for USG comes through the branch as well.

The Judicial Branch also review parking appeals issued by the Office of Parking and Transportation Services. Any questions concerning USG’s Constitution or Bylaws are directed towards the Judicial Branch. They are also in charge of organizing and running the USG Presidential Debate and General and First Year Elections.

The Legislative Branch focuses on writing legislation that directly impacts students concerns or questions. There are twenty-two diverse Senators who represent all of the different colleges, groups, and students who attend The University of Akron. Their main concern is to interact with their constituencies, figure out their concerns, and then develop a solution. They present the solution as a piece of legislation, which is a formal recommendation.
